I would need advice on a convertible car seat. My son is 4 months and has outgrown his infant carrier?

Krys asked:

He is 16 pounds, and looks way to big for it. We are shopping for a convertible car seat for Rear Facing.
We have looked at Evenflo Triumph, Cosco Scenera, Safety 1st Avenue, Graco My Ride. Need suggestions? I don’t want to pay more than 140. Help!! Opinions??

If you don’t want to pay more than $140, then I’d go with the Graco Comfort Sport. It’s good to 40 pounds, but it’s smaller and cheaper than the My Ride 65.

We just bought our convertible, but we bought a Britax. It’s a great car seat, but definitely more than what you want to pay.

I would stick with graco. They are a great brand

  3. We have the Graco Comfort Sport, it is nice. My son seems very comfortable, it has great safety ratings, and isn’t too expensive ( about $100).

We purchased two of them for each of our cars. We have the Graco Comfortsport which is only 80. Its such a great seat. My son loves this seat:
    &

We also have the Evenflow Titan which is also another great car seat and is 100.

If you can dish out the extra 20 dollars then I would go with the Graco My Ride 65. It goes up to 65lbs.

Really I like the Graco my ride 65. I haven’t bought it yet, but I am going to when I buy one. It has the biggest weight limit for rear-facing (40 pounds) and forward facing to 65 pounds. Also has the five point harness. I also like the way it looks! Good luck-I think the Graco my ride 65 is just about $150, so just $10 off your original mark-I would rather pay $10 more to get much more use out of it.

  6. my ride65 was only 150. well worth it. we love it and its comfy for my 3 month old. he out grew the carrier seat quick.

I gotThe First Years True Fit Convertible Car Seat.

It is a great seat… it goes up to 35lbs rear facing and 65lbs front facing!! The best part of it is the way the straps are…you do not need to remove to carseat in order to adjust the height of the shoulder straps! there is a bar in the back that you simply press and lower or higher to replace the straps!! it is awesome…it comes in alot of different colors and I would recommend it to anyone…oh and it’s easy to instal took me 20 minutes this morning!!

My kiddo just outgrew his infant carrier too. I bought the Evenflo Triumph LX and LOVE it! It’s $125 on Amazon and was $139 at Babies r US. It’s good up to 50 pounds. It’s roomy for baby (it does take up a lot of space in the car) and is easy to adjust straps. You can tighten and loosen the straps with 1 hand.

I searched the internet and read reviews and picked this one. It was in my parenting magazine as a top 5 pick.

  9. If you want to get the best for your money I would choose the Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe. It is the same as the Britax Marathon, without the pricetag. Check it out, it may be more than $140 but I doubt it is by much.

Edited to add: I just looked it up on albeebaby.com which is where I have bought both of my Britax carseats and it is onsale for $129, plus free shipping! (Their shipping is super fast too)

I really really really (did I say really?) encourage you to do some research on this carseat I think you will find that it is really a great deal money wise but more importantly, safetywise. Best of luck in your search, let us know what you decide?

My son never liked the carrier seat (Graco) so we had to start using the convertible one that we had gotten as a gift. Its made by Eddie Bauer and he loves it! We had to go out and buy another one for my husband’s car and he’s been great ever since. it works up to 40lbs and very sturdy yet comfortable..
