Just wondering as I am going to buy one tonight. Also cheaper end car seats…are they as well made as the more expensive?

  1. All car seats must pass the exact same safety regulations and tests, no car seat is safer than the next.
Cheap or expensive, get the one you like best.

We bought ours at Wal-Mart for $80. It’s the Cosco brand convertable car seat and we love it. It was so easy to install.

  2. You get what you pay for. You want cheap, you will get cheap and uncomfortable to baby.

We got a graco seat, very cusiony and it only was $99. Not too bad.

  3. We haven’t gotten one yet, but the one I like is around $170.

  4. We spent $300, but the money was a gift from my mother-in-law for that purpose. We probably would have spent less if she hadn’t given us the money. I have a close friend with the evenflo convertible car seat (I don’t recall the make) and she’s been very happy with it. That’s probably the one I would have gotten, but hey, if MIL wants to give me three hundred for a car seat, Britax it is!

  5. They all have to pass certain safety standards.

We have an Evenflo Titan Elite and like it. We didn’t purchase it, it was given as a Christmas present, but it costs around $100. I just cannot stomach spending around $300 for a car seat(Britax) but that’s me.

I have thought about getting one of the Cosco Scenera ones as a second/back up seat. They are only around $50 but I’ve heard they work great.

  6. As they all have to pass safety standards it is more the case of which one is easiest for you to use. My middle child could depress the safety button on ordinary seats so I had to find one with a cover that fooled her but was still easy to open in an emergency.

  7. Cheaper car seats are often smaller. If you have three kids, or two kids and you have to fold part of the back seat down to get all your luggage in to go on holiday, this can be a big advantage. We actually stopped using my son’s expensive booster seat in favour of a £10 cheapo from Argos. They have passed the exact same safety tests, and he finds it far easier to attach the seatbelt with the cheaper and smaller one. I don’t want him growing up thinking that putting a seatbelt on is an annoying hassle.

My kids are older, but one thing I would say is that I wouldn’t spend a fortune on a seat to suit all ages until I’d made sure that it was actually cheaper than buying separate seats designed for each age group. All other things being equal, a booster seat designed purely as a front facing booster seat will be better than a booster seat which was also designed with the requirement to be the base of a seat for a little baby and then a toddler, and having to fit both forwards and backwards facing.

Edit: and don’t buy anything without checking that it fits correctly in your car! If you go to a decent store, they will take it out and install it for you. Not all seats fit all cars, and the best seat in the world is dangerous if it doesn’t fit properly.

  8. We bought an Evenflo Triumph Advance because I read so many good reviews and fell in love with it in the store. I think we spent around $140.00. We also needed one for my husbands car as well and since he isn’t in there as much I didn’t want to spend lots of money. I did some research and found lots of good reviews on the Cosco Scenera , so we got it, spending about $60.00 on it. My son really loves both seats and seems very comfortable in both, so cost doesn’t always equal better quality or comfort. However, there are things about our main car seat, the Evenflo one, that make it much more easy to use, for that reason I am not sure I would want the other to be our main car seat. As far as safety goes though, as far as I have experienced they are equal.

I would look some carseats up before you go and read the reviews, often parents who have had the carseats can give you the best advice. Then go to the store and check them out, buy the one you like the best that fits your budget and try it out, if you don’t like it or don’t feel its safe, remember you can always exchange it.

  9. We paid around $160 for ours… we travel a lot, and I thought a more comfortable one would be better for our son, and I really love it.
All of them are safe, they wouldn’t be able to sell them if they weren’t, when you spend the money your really spending more for comfort and convenience… for example I dont have to take my sons straps out to adjust them… I hit a button and I can move the straps up… the cheaper ones you have to re-thread. Also the cheaper ones are a little less comfortable. If you travel or drive for long distances I would go with a more expensive one… if you just drive short distances, and your not in the car alot then save your money and go with a cheaper one :)

  10. we have 2 graco comfort sport car seats…love them both!! I think I paid about $170 total for BOTH of them. I have one that I keep in my car and the other one gets moved back and forth between dad’s ride and grandma’s ride…

I haven’t had any problems with either of them and they are easily adjustable. when my great neice comes down for a visit (3 months older than our son) my brother can easily adjust the straps in the 2nd seat that we have and uses it for when she is here since they always fly down. Works out really well for all of us… She is quite a bit bigger (about 5-8 lbs heavier) than our son and its really easy to adjust the straps to make them fit either baby really well.

  11. I paid 80. I was willing to spend up to 150. The one we have we bought at Walmart and it will hold her up until she is 45lbs. Starts at 5lbs also. Rear facing until 22lbs I believe.

I really like it! The only thing I don’t like is it doesn’t lay her back like her newborn one did, and she still falls asleep in the car a lot! But I think most car seats after the infant ones don’t really lean back to far.

I would have to say you probably get what you pay for, but my daughter seems to really like this one! I can’t imagine a 300 dollar car seat is all that much “better”.

    Good luck car seat hunting!!
