Convertible Car Seat to fit in back of extended cab truck?
barbevans04 asked:
We bought a car seat (Recaro Como) and it’s huge! It barely fits in the back of my Cavalier let alone my husband’s 2008 Silverado. We’re looking for something much, much smaller….especially depth-wise.

Any recommendations?

We have a Cosco Scenera convertible car seat in the extended cab of my husband’s 1995 Ford F250. We bought it at Wal-Mart. It works well for us. We do keep it in the middle of the back — he has a front console instead of a bench. Now that our son is facing forward (20 months) his legs do extend just slightly over the console, but I would imagine an ‘08 pickup would have more room in the extended cab than my husband’s ‘95.

We have a Graco My Ride 65 that fits in my 2 door honda accord and fits in my sisters 2 door honda civic… I’m not sure if it would fit in the extended cab truck but what we had to do (A lot of carseats wouldn’t fit in my car) was go to Babies R Us and they would let us take the model carseats out to our car and try them out… We just had to have an associate that works there with us… If I were you I would try that option so you know it fits for sure!
Good luck

Yeah – the como is huge – honestly – its probably the biggest seat on the market right now depth wise and height wise.
You should really be able to fit almost anything else in there – all the britax seats should work (check out the new britax roundabout 50 – its like the marathon but cheaper – and it can touch the seat in front of it), the First Year’s True Fit is nice because its not too tall – so for an SUV it won’t kill your back getting the baby in and out.
The trick is – most convertible seats you can have touch the seat in front of them (unlike the infant buckets) – but the Recaro sits so tall, that especially in SUV’s, I find it totally blocks your view of the back window – it really truly is just that seat. It’s nice for forward facing in a third row so you can see the child – but terrible otherwise.
I’d to go babies r us, and actually try some seats in your car. You can also go to and search for your car model to see if anyone has any photos or a car with seats in it.
