Proper Positioning for a Safe, Comfortable Ride
Proper positioning helps keep your child secure in the car, and that’s why the Diplomat is chock full of features that ensure your child is seated and strapped in at the safest angle. An easy-turn knob quickly adjusts headrest and harness height without requiring you to uninstall the seat, while the tangle-free, five-point harness ensures a snug and secure fit at multiple heights. There’s also a rear-and forward-facing recline option and soft body pillow for child comfort and proper positioning. Convenient belt holders keep the harness to the side so you can comfortably place child in the seat, and premium push-button LATCH connectors provide a quick, simple and tight installation. Finally, built-in lock-off clips tightly secure the vehicle seat belt without the need for additional parts you could misplace.
True Side Impact ProtectionTM and Versa-Tether for Peace of Mind
The Companion also gives you additional peace of mind by featuring engineered True Side Impact ProtectionTM. Deep side walls and head support provide advanced shock-absorption and cushioning in side impact collisions, helping to reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) impact foam lining around the baby’s head and torso absorbs energy in side and rear impacts, cradles baby’s head to keep it away from protruding parts, cushions violent side to side movements, and creates a comfortable resting spot. Secondly, the rear- and forward-facing recline allows the patented Versa-Tether, an energy management top tether, to anchor the top of seat to the vehicle in the event of impact, thereby reducing movement. Specifically, the Versa-Tether fastens the top of the car seat to factory installed automobile anchor points, minimizing the possibility of a head injury. This system also allows for rear-facing tethering to help keep the seat consistently stable.

HUGS for Optimum Safety and Support
When it comes to safety, the Diplomat truly delivers. First, the patented floating HUGS (Harness Ultra Guard) system exceeds U.S. safety standards by reducing forward head movement as it gently cushions the neck and chest with soft padding–a feature that’s particularly important both in the case of an accident and during nap time. In addition, this system better distributes the webbing loads, reducing head movement and minimizing harness irritation on baby’s neck in case of an impact. HUGS also reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip.
Lightweight at 15 pounds, and measuring 19 x 25 x 23.5 inches (WxHxD), the Britax is also certified for air travel. The Diplomat comes with a 1-year limited warranty.
The Diplomat is also available in the following colors: Taylor and Onyx.

I would not buy this again for the following reasons.
1 – the Side Impact Protection is a loose piece of foam covered only by the headrest fabric (separate from the cover on the rest of the seat). It can be bumped out of position quite easily. Imagine putting a squirmy baby into a rear-facing carseat in a compact car and you can see that it is easy for this piece to get caught on your elbow or grabbed by the child. In the first 3 days of use, I cracked the foam in 2 places. There is no reinforcement to prevent this from happening.
2 – the concept of adjusting the strap height with a simple knob is a good one, but watch out if you have an older child who likes turning knobs and wheels…. I’m afraid my toddler will one day hurt his little brother by cranking down on that knob too far.
Overall, it is a very safe car seat, comfortable for the child, and a breeze to install. But that piece of foam could use some reinforcement. I can’t imagine that I’m the only one with this problem.

We ordered closeout color huntington and without being told, were shipped color taylor instead–at the greater price! Now we are being asked to pay the shipping to return a car seat that we don’t want and didn’t order. MAKE SURE at checkout that the price you are paying matches the car seat you want to order!

I wanted a Britax because it is the best rated on Consumer Reports, and I was very happy to find this one on sale. I assume they are discontinuing the color, because otherwise it is the same as other colors priced over $250. The Diplomat is smaller than the Boulevard. We have a Subaru Impreza hatchback, and this car seat fits fine. The passenger in the front still has limited leg room, but it takes up about the same space as the Graco SnugRide we had for the first few months for our son. My son seems to like the seat. He never complains getting in, and seems quite comfy in it. His head also doesn’t flop forward like in the infant seats. The straps do get twisted up easily like some other reviewers have said, but it’s not a big deal. The only complaint that I have is that my son’s head smells like the “new” car seat smell after riding in it. I don’t like thinking about what chemicals that might be from the manufacturing process, but I guess it’s unavoidable unless there are organic fabric car seats out there. All in all, a great buy! Easy to install in the car too…pretty standard.

We got this carseat for my son when he was 1 year old after him hating his infant carrier. He used to cry all the time in the carrier. Not with this carseat. He has not fussed once about being in the car or asked to get out, and we’ve had it for over a year now. My parents live far out of town and when we visit, we have used two other “highly recommended” carseats. It’s not the same. My son’s head never falls over when he falls asleep, and I have the comfort in knowing that his carseat was constructed by a truly reliable manufacturer. When my next baby is ready, I’m buying another one.

I think this seat is very good and like all the nice features. It is easy to install and use. However, the manual says that it can recline in the forward facing position. I can see no way in which this would be possible without the seat not being attached to the car in any way. This is extremely disappointing. My son can still sleep in it, but I know he would be much more comfortable if the seat could actually recline like it supposedly should. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but there just seems to be no way to use the recline feature. Other than that, I am happy with the safety features and ease of use, but am thinking of going with something else that will recline since he will probably be in this seat for at least a couple of years.
